How Many Spiritual Conversations Do You Have Every Week?
A cross-cultural worker, Jason, who serves overseas, mentioned something that bothered me.
He told me he surveyed all the long-term cross-cultural workers in his organization working in his country, and asked them, “How many significant spiritual conversations do you have every week?”
The average? Six. Per team.
Only six? I replied.
Since there are about four to six adults per team, that means each person is having a signficant spiritual conversation or two (with some of the most unreached people on this earth) only once or twice every week.
Yes, and we are like-minded that, there is a direct correlation to fruitfulness when there are MANY MORE spiritual conversations happening. You know, the principle of sowing wide seed to find the few.
How many spiritual conversations does it take to find the one family who is interested in spiritual things? Usually DOZENS of conversations.
How many spiritual conversations does it take for someone to walk a family from the Kingdom of Darkness into the Kingdom of Light especially if they are from Muslim, Hindu or Buddhist backgrounds?
Usually HUNDREDS of spiritual conversations—plus significant, personal experiences with God—plus demonstrations of the Kingdom by its citizens, willing to live it out.
So WHY are some experienced, cross-cultural workers who’ve given their lives to move to the ends of the earth NOT having regular, authentic, plentiful spiritual conversations?
Busyness. Fear. Stress. Lack of confidence, intentionality, boldness, training.
To be fair, it sounds kinda like most of us, doesn’t it?
We should definitely be doing it here first…before even considering moving there.
Sometimes it’s hard to even know how to START a spiritual conversation.
So, I created the Seven Spiritual Conversation Starters Guide to teach you how to speak seven simple sentences that could lead to something deeper. Each page of the guide gives you the sentence to say, such as, “Have you ever had a dream from God?” and then I’ll give you more background on how to use it.
